The Role
I really enjoyed the scheme, there was a comprehensive induction which was a nice way to begin, rather than being thrown in at the deep end. The workload was tough with a mix of departmental work and group work, but this was good in that I was always kept busy and felt I never stopped learning.
I was always given feedback for the work I had done and felt that I was made to feel as though I was genuinely adding something to the firm in the three weeks I spent there.
We weren't thrown in at the deep end at all and help was always there if I needed it.
I was kept very busy during the duration of the scheme. This was clearly beneficial and the only downside was that there was quite a lot of pressure when you are constantly being assessed in one form or another.
I was given real trainee tasks rather than any photocopying or 'filler' tasks, which I felt gave me a really good insight into the life of a trainee. Any more responsibility would have been unnecessary and would have put me too much out of my comfort zone in such a short scheme.
I felt that my research and analytical skills in particular were improved by the scheme and these will benefit me when I start full-time at the firm.
The Company
There was a real good buzz in the department with lots of interaction and a genuine open-door policy in place.
The structure of the scheme was the best part about it. There was an induction, a well thought out group project, various interesting presentations and also some fun socials.
The company invested in me mainly through allowing me to spend time and learn from trainees, associates and partners of the firm, who might have otherwise been spending their time logging billable hours!
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
I was offered a training contract, so I guess future prospects are good!
The Culture
We all got along really well and regularly (and still do) met up outside of work hours.
Being in London, the cost of socialising was clearly high, but this is no real surprise and not a concern.
A few bars and pubs in the area but nothing much else.
I don't specifically remember anything but there may have been a football match. Generally everyone says the opportunities are there if you want them.
