The Role
Overall I really enjoyed my year with SAP! I met loads of great people and had experiences I know I could never get in University alone.
Interns are highly regarded within SAP and often perform business critical roles, so there is no danger of feeling under-valued!
There is a buddy system in place and managers are generally more than willing to offer any help or advice that they can.
For me everyday varied and to some extent I could control my workload. I like to be busy so I took on more work in the beginning, I did find this slowed after Christmas and then again going into Summer.
I was given great amounts of responsibility when hosting events, inviting customers, planning campaigns and managing a budget. All of which provide me with fantastic examples to use in future interviews.
I have learnt so much this year, it was a bit like jumping in at the deep end to start with but I think that shock is natural and helped me to appreciate how far I have come.
The Company
The atmosphere at SAP is quite relaxed, there is hot desking and depending on your department, the opportunity to work remotely which often helped when juggling work and Uni work.
The placement was well organised but I think some focus on managing the processes in on-boarding and hand over have been a little overlooked and rushed.
In this regard I think I missed out in my role. I would have liked more emphasis on training courses at the beginning. I have done some online but I would have liked to get on a Design Thinking course.

The only problem with SAP in that respect is that graduate opportunities are limited. This is something the company is working on but at the moment it is not a position I would be looking to apply for.
The Culture
Generally there was a good social scene around SAP, we had lots of company Christmas parties as well as intern drinks and other events.
As we are based just outside of London, beers are not exactly cheap but if you budget well and find a place to rent that is a realistic price it is do-able.
The nightlife in the immediate area is limited but you do have the whole of London to explore so if you are prepared to pay for the tube/an uber on the way back you are spoilt for choice!
Definitely lots to get involved with outside your job, I am the SAP netball team coach and also get out to Universities around the country to talk about internship tips and tricks. There are also loads of CSR opportunities.
