The Role
I had a great year at SAP, the support I received from all areas of the business was amazing and I managed to get involved in things that I wouldn't expect an intern to be able to.
I was treated like a full time employee from the beginning, I am expected to deliver on projects like any other employee and each time I complete a good piece of work, I get recognition for it.
Although after a certain period of time I am expected to be reasonably self-sufficient, my management are always there to reach out to if I need them.
My workload was manageable. In times of not being busy there are always plenty of people to reach out to and help, it is up to you to an extent what level of work you want to take on.
As I said before, I was treated like a full time employee and a valuable member of the team. The more I delivered with my work, the more I could get involved in.
I feel that my development this year has put me in a really good place going back into my final year of university. I have managed to apply my course to my role somewhat and can see how I will use what I have learnt this year at university and beyond.
The Company
It is a very open working environment so from senior managers to interns, we all sit among each other rather than in our own booths/offices. This means that on a daily basis you are talking to varied people and all are friendly.
We have a hand over period with the placement student before us. This is a month long and helps because you have someone who was only in your situation 12 months ago. You have them to ask questions to and they train you up so you do not feel as if you have been 'dropped in at the deep end'.
I managed to attend external customer meetings, travel to a educational conference abroad with my team and get involved in training courses. There is so much content online and in classroom style sessions that there is always something to learn should you be interested.

There is a big push for more young people to join the business so I feel as if SAP are very keen to bring previous interns back once we graduate from university.
The Culture
Yes, the interns have a close-knit community as the majority work in the same office. We have had socials and weekend activities organised for whoever wants to go.
Since it is outer London it is not as expensive as central, but it isn't inexpensive at the same time. I am from around the area anyway so this is normal for me but it isn't student night prices!
Around the office, there aren't many places to go to. But twickenham/richmond are easy to get to and perfect for after-work drinks. Usually nights out are around central London.
Definitely, there are sports clubs for both men and women. CSR activities are regularly organised too. If there isn't something you like, you can always set your own thing up anyway, there is no restriction on this.
