    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Working at SAP has been a great experience. Learning how a huge company runs and gaining a great amount of insight and knowledge which I will be able to transfer to other jobs. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and everyone was very well coming and always happy to help. It was a enjoyable place to work and the intern community was really helpful especially when needed.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Within my department everyone was really welcoming and always happy to help answer any questions I had. Even though I was an intern I did not feel like I was and people always came to ask me questions. I felt a valued member of the team and really involved in help run the department. Being put in charge of things that only I could do and people needed from me.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I regularly had one to one meetings with my manager (nearly every week) and a monthly meeting with my HR manager. In the beginning they were really helpfully in teaching me process and how everything works. throughout the year they have given me new projects and guided me into training where needed. Even if my managers were unavailable I felt as though I could always ask other members of the team and they would always be willing to support me.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Throughout the year my business has changed from week to week and even day to day. Depending on going projects I had, along with departmental events, my role could completely be dependant on that. I have helped people out when I have not been as busy with other things, but when I become busy I take on less other opportunities.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My department do a very different job to my self and therefore my main role is the internal reporting. I have been apart of all the compliance work this year and I feel this has been a great responsibility as I have had to make sure everything is up to date and ready for the audit. I have been given task and expected to use my own imitative to complete these in the best way I think possible

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My role has not been particularly related to my degree (Maths) but the business skills I have learnt this year will be invaluable when applying to graduate roles. General presenting skills, organisation and other soft skills will really help me in the future. I received basic training on excel and outlook at the beginning and the any of the other soft ware was taught to me on the job. I undertook SAP one course which taught me all about out different project and S4HANA training as well.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Within my department everyone is very happy and helpfully. Everyone gets along and will really help each other out. It is a lovely place to work and I have really got on well with everyone in my team. I work with two other interns and we all get on so well and this has really enhanced my year. All the team will all chat to me and I really don't feel like an intern.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • When I first started we had a two week on boarding where we learnt about all the different departments and what they all do, this was really well organised but the previous interns. Throughout my placement I have felt it has been organised especially when hiring the new interns. I had a two month hand over period where I learnt about my job and taught how to run everything.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • At the beginning of my placement I was sent on a SAP One course. This is a three day course where you are taught about SAP products and how they work. Throughout the rest of the year I have been encouraged to do as much as I can online training, especially if there is anything relevant to my degree. My mangers always make time to show me products and new processes that may help me and forward any information that I might find useful.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Currently there is a graduate scheme call the sales academy, this doesn't particularly appeal to me. I currently do not know of any other grad jobs available, but these come and go though out the year. I will hopefully be notified if any of these roles become available within my final year. I have not yet decided what I want to do in the future but I from my placement I think I have narrowed it down.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There are 30 other interns within SAP, this means we have a great community here. We have been on several nights out, intern Christmas meal and Thorpe Park trip. Within my team they organised a Skiing trip which I attended this year. It was great fun to get to know everyone and had a great time skiing. We have had a company Christmas party in December, which everyone was allowed to attend, it was in an arcade and had such a good time.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I live with 6 other people in my house and therefor I only pay 460 a month for rent. This is very cheep in comparison to the area, some of the other interns pay around 600 a month. As we are on the outskirts of London this makes everywhere very expensive especially if you want to like in Richmond or Twickenham. This is a large proportion of our pay check but if you are good with money you can still have a good time.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Living on the tube line means we can get into central London in around 40 mins. This is perfect for a night out but it is very expensive. We have been on a few nights out but with London prices it is difficult to keep going out. We more regally go for drinks in Richmond after work.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We have an SAP football team and netball team. This has been a great chance for me to get to know other people throughout the business. The football team get to go to Germany for a competition and play against other countries there. Due to the location of the office it is quite difficult to have other activities as we are not near anywhere.
