The Role
The experience has been quite enjoyable. I have found my colleagues to be friendly and welcoming, the work I have been doing has been a real insight into the sort of work an auditor does and the days go by fairly quickly.
I was treated like any other new member of staff who had joined the firm as a graduate, albeit perhaps with slightly more leniency. I was privy to all information and discussions usually carried out and treated with respect despite my lack of formal training like the others.
Management allowed me to look up other opportunities and be involved in other engagements, and I was given challenging work as requested. I was very much allowed to scope the experience to my own abilities.
There was always something to do - some days were busier than others (non-stop, usually) but on occasion I did not have plenty to do.
I was carrying out usual graduate testing.
Some of the work I was doing either consolidated previous years study or will come in handy for my final year.
The Company
I was not in the office much - primarily out on engagements - but people knew when to work hard and when they could relax a bit. One of the days I was in the office it was more relaxed, and the whole department had the afternoon off for a scavenger hunt and afternoon drinks because of busy season.
Relatively well - things were not set in stone and allowed for expansion and development which was great. However, during the lulls I feel like this meant I was not being as efficient as I could have been and that I was left without things to do.
We had a day and a halfs training and constant access to e-learning.
Company Parties/Events
The placement has certainly opened my eyes to audit and Deloitte, and I would enjoy working in the firm. For the end of the programme a partner interview is arranged for a graduate role.
The Culture
We went out for drinks a few times and had a meal and so forth. There was also plenty of opportunity to meet up with colleagues you had met, which I did.
Quite expensive as it is in London.
Varied and within easily commutable distances.
There was nothing that caught my eye during my time there, but if you had asked then there would definitely have been opportunities.
