The Role
I really enjoyed my placement. Everyone is really friendly and welcoming, and there's lots to get stuck into.
It was quite hard to feel like part of the team at first, as everyone works in different offices, and you're only communicating via phone or email. After time and a few face-to-face meetings you get to know your colleagues better and feel more like a part of the team.
My manager is based in a different office, so you don't get the day-to-day support that others may receive. However, we have weekly 121s to discuss anything I want to, and my manager is always a call or email away if I ever need any urgent support or guidance. If my manager isn't available, the rest of the team are also great to seek support from.
This varies day-to-day. Depending on what you are working on and what events arise in the week, some days can be very busy, whilst others can be a bit quieter.
Given the responsibility to contribute to reports to sent to senior stakeholders, and also lead my own projects. Get as much responsbility as you are willing to give/take on.
The skills I've developed are skills for life and will help me greatly in my future career, although, they won't really assist me in my degree. There's also useful training courses available that you can take up for personal development if you wish to do so.
The Company
Quite a serious atmosphere compared to other office locations given it's head office.
Very well organised, you have a 2 day induction that will help you get to grips with the company and what they are about. Once I was in my role, there was not something set in stone that I had to do, my manager and I discussed a clear plan for me to make sure that I got the most out of my placement year. You can discuss with your manager what you would like to work on and achieve, and you can organise your placement from there. We have weekly 121s to make sure that everything is going okay, and to discuss anything else.
Within my area itself, we had a development day which was supposed to aid us in development, and see what areas we could improve on. There's also courses that you can sign up to for your own personal development.

No grad scheme in my area, although you do have the opportunity to apply to other grads schemes if you would like to.
The Culture
Good social scence amongst the placement students, we all got along well, and would occassionally go for nights out together.
Rent and the general cost of living is very expensive, although the salary is sufficient enough so that you can make do. The social life is better in the bigger student towns, rather than the closer towns.
Not much of a nightlife in the area I worked, a few pubs around. However, there's a much better nightlife in the student towns and London.
There wasn't many opportunities within work itself that I was aware of. There were a couple of activities that the grads set up (football and go karting), but there's plenty of opportunities to join your own clubs outside of work.
