The Role
Has been an invaluable experience. Would do it again in a heart beat! Really enjoyed the year
I intergrated with ease into my team,, I felt I was actually contributing to their efforts and the companys goals
When I needed help with anything ther was always someone I could talk to. I was made to feel no question was stupid and encouraged to challenge the day to day running of the team
I was busy nearly all the time! On occasion I felt slightly overwhelmed but the support of my collegues these issues were resolved
I was given a good deal of responsibility. Basic background tasks to help the team function/ run smoothly on a day to day basis. Ran and designed my own individual experiments. Performed the MLA screening assay and my data is now in the scientific community.
I have learnt my way around the lab and work efficiently whilst remaining accurate and aseptic. Dilutions were something I used to struggle with, I am now confident. I have developed my time management skills significantly. I have also learnt how important it is to understand your collegues/managers and how they prefer to be communicated with and that this is important no matter what environment you are in ie how best to communicate with people
The Company
Though on occasion it was quiet. A lot of laughter and banter was exchanged withing the group.
At the begginning of the placement I felt everything was a bit up in the air. But once my initial training had completed everything settled down and I was used as another member of the team.
A lot of time and effort was invested in my development/training
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I would love to come back and work for them. So many development and progression opportunities.
The Culture
There was a group of about 12 of us that tended to go out on the weekends and smaller groups met up during the week. Was a nice social environment #youngprofessionals
Lived/worked near london so was quite expensive in comparison to Uni, but it was certainly manageable, even managed to save some money.
Was good for a cheeky pint. The nightclub scene wasn't fantastic but I prefer pubs anyway, and there were pleanty of them!
With the socail sports club next door there were loads of clubs and events to choose from.
