The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed the vacation scheme and feel that I gained a valuable insight into the workings of the firm and its culture. In comparison with other firms, there was a real effort to show students the real trainee experience.
There was a real effort to make me feel welcomed and valued. The trainees in particular are a very down to earth group.
Given the context, I felt well supported and that any questions would be welcomed.
I was busy, which was unexpected and welcomed. I didn't even get time to eat lunch on one particular day! I appreciated being busy and learnt much more as a result.
I was treated like a trainee, given the context.
It was very useful to put my legal knowledge and skills developed whilst at law school into practice. It was interesting to get a feel for the different skills needed across different practice areas.
The Company
There was a very positive atmosphere. Some of the trainees did however appear somewhat stressed and overwhelmed.
It was very well organised- particularly the talks from the different practice groups. However, some of these had to be rescheduled a number of times due to the speakers' busy schedules. The HR team even organised a tour of Lloyd's of London which was really interesting.
Average.
I was offered a training contract.
The Culture
My fellow students were good fun and we went for regular coffees and drinks after work and have kept in touch since the vacation scheme. The trainees were also good fun although due to being quite busy they weren't as able to partake in social activities with the vacation scheme students. However, those that could make drinks did and were good fun.
The City is expensive but this is to be expected. HR picked up the tab for firm organised drinks which was nice.
The bars were nice.
I was invited to play netball with the firm after the vacation scheme.
