The Role
Varied and interesting great balance of commercial exposure and cutting edge CADCAM research.
the company invests in social activities to encourage people from different departments to meet. This helps alot with getting noticed and teamwork.
You are given quite a bit of autonomy based on loose briefs such as searching new markets or technologies. More day to day tasks are delegated. They are good and asking you whether the workload is too much and you are encouraged to speak up if it is.
In a good way of course!
they gave me ownership of projects early on and where I had picked up knowledge I also had more responsibilities. its good they place trust from an ealy stage to earn respect with colleagues for completing tasks.
I had already completed my studies before the placement but I was able to definitely use my CAD background to my advantage as learning their specific software was relatively swift and easy.
The Company
Nearly all staff were friendly and approachable and enjoyed giving out tipps and advice. Though you were expected to knuckle down when the heat was on so it wasn't banter all the time!
fairly well planned out as they timed my placement with the launch of a new hardware product and placed me on a 1 week intensive CADCAM course to get used to their software to enable me to understand and eventually support and market their solutions.
internally with their own products they are very good as they have an inhouse team of trainers. Only critique is the lack of opportunities to study for certifications or institutional awards such as the IMechE or chartered management diplomas. It would be something they could consider to encourage people to stay on after their placement.

Company Parties/Events
I have actually accepted a permanent position with the company!
The Culture
Yes, company socials such as curry nights and hill walks are popular as well as go karting. There's definitely plenty of events to attend should you wish to. Obviously only restriction is the type of people you will likely encounter but there's usually a good crowd.
I rented in the local area and though its hardly an 'beautiful' area its definitely cheap!
not great to be fair, most of the nightlife was in the centre of the city which was only 20-25 minutes on the bus away.
They have activities with the STEM ambassor schemes plus alot of involvement with locak business and universities can create new opportunities.
