The Role
I have really enjoyed working with Savills and would advise anyone who wants to work in property to apply, I have recently made the decision to change careers and spending time with the LRD team has made me realise that I have made the right choice.
I feel that my colleagues have been extremely helpful in explaining what I need to do and in taking time to answer any questions. They have been very enthusiastic in taking me on site and to various viewings. Overall the atmosphere has been very friendly and helpful.
As mentioned previously the management has been extremely helpful during the month I have spent at Savills. One aspect that stands out is how structured and organised the programme has been. The graduate team have taken every step to organise events and departmental overviews. This has given me a broader understanding of the industry and the company.
I would say that on average I have been given a new project each day. My work load has been varied and manageable. I have had to adhere to strict deadlines which I have enjoyed.
I have been given the amount of responsibility that I would expect from such a scheme. The majority of the teams workload is client facing and obviously the amount that I have been able to help with this side is limited due to my experience.
I think that this placement has set me up very well for doing my Masters and hopefully I will be able to put the theoretically aspects of the course into a practical context. It has also helped me to understand which APC pathway I would potentially take.
The Company
I have been sitting opposite the agency side of LRD and therefore the atmosphere has been very energetic and exciting. The team are very professional in their approach although they are also very social.
The work placement has been very well organised with regular departmental overviews. The city team have arranged tours of the square mile which has given me a good insight into Savills involvement in the city. The scheme administrator is also on hand to answer any questions.
As this is a relatively short placement so there has obviously been little formal training. However as mentioned previously both the graduate team and my manager have been very helpful and have also given me the support I have needed to do my job.
I will be looking to apply for the Graduate scheme in September.
The Culture
I have always made the effort to meet with the other summer scheme students and really enjoyed the softball evening which was a great chance to network,
I think that the cost of living and socialising in London is always going to be high. I don't think that this would be any different than any other placement in the area.
The nightlife around Margaret street is very good. There are almost too many places to choose from and all within walking distance from the head office.
There where a few opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work, most of which where organised by the graduate team
