The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my month with Savills.
I felt like my work for Savills during the month was valued by my colleagues, despite them not being able to give me projects that I knew nothing about as had been going on for years.
I felt very supported and my colleagues were always offering me more work to do so I never felt along or misguided.
I went out on site visits almost everyday and was never left with nothing to do, on the odd occasion that I maybe would be I would just ask if anyone needed anything done and they always did.
I was given the maximum responsibility that was possible due to my lack of knowledge and understand of some of the projects I worked on. I was trusted with every task they gave me and given guidance on whatever I was given.
I learnt a lot during my month at Savills but I am doing a different course at uni, planning, not building surveying but possibly what I have learnt may aid my studies next year, depending on the modules. I learnt also about Savills as a business which will definitely assist me if I achieve my goal of getting a position on the Graduate team at Savills.
The Company
Very buzzy and everyone in good spirits all day, everyday. Great place to work, very a dull moment. Lots of young which was nice and relaxing even though everyone was clearly working very hard.
I thought the internship was very well organised and many activities and meeting were set up for us all which was great as meant the interns formed relationships with each other and could discuss our different experiences. I felt as though Savills really valued us and wanted us to get a lot out of the time we had and learn a lot, which we definitely did.
Different colleagues would inform me about different parts of building surveying and I was always ask lots of questions after site visits that I didn't understand and all of my questions were always answered with depth and clarity. I didn't have specific personal training and development sessions.
Sports and Social Club
100% want to work at Savills after I have graduated. I have to do a masters in Real Estate or Building Surveying as I am doing Planning at the moment but ideally I would love to start working at Savills as soon as possible, so much so that I would like to do my masters while working at Savills doing work towards my APC.
The Culture
Many nights after work my team and I went to the pub, everyone is very friendly with each other and all get on well. I also attended a couple of softball matches, one with the graduates against Gerald Eve and another with the other interns and some graduates, these were great social events and made me confirm my idea to set up a Savills sports team (if I manage to work there in the future).
The cost was fairly pricey in the area I was working as I was in the main office, Margaret Street which is parallel to Oxford Street so very busy and expensive area.
I didn't go to any clubs during my time at Savills but one night my team and I went on a pub crawl and the atmosphere was great until quite late on.
Yes, sports teams.
