About You
Had a really interesting week... Learnt a lot and had so much fun too.
I felt like the tasks I was set throughout the week contributed something to the firm, however small.
We are given a supervisor who allocates us tasks on a day-to-day basis, and a trainee 'buddy'. Both were always available to answer any questions I had, as was everyone else at the firm, including those in HR, who are always on-hand to assist with any queries.
I didn't do a law degree, but I do feel the skills that I learnt on the vac scheme will assist me should I go on to study for a GDL and an LPC. In general, the skills you will develop on the placement can apply to any career path you choose to take.
The Company
I felt like the whole placement was very well organised, and that a lot of effort had gone into making sure everyone benefitted as much as possible from taking part.
Couldn't fault the atmosphere at the firm.
Hard to comment after only a week but I feel the assessments we take part in and the tasks we are set daily really contribute to our personal training and development.
I was set tasks that a trainee would do, which gave me valuable insight as to what it is like to work for the firm. I felt that being in the general office environment surrounded by trainees, solicitors, paralegals, partners etc. offers a really good view into what it would be like to have a full-time role here.
Before attending the placement, I wasn't 100% sure if law was the right career for me, however, now I am convinced it is what I want to do.
Everything Else
I was paid and it was more than enough to cover transport costs.
Walker Morris places a huge emphasis on social events and there were drinks on Monday and Friday after work, and a social on Wednesday which was a quiz night. All were really enjoyable (free bar!) and there was the opportunity to meet lots of other trainees. The lunch on Monday was also attended by other solicitors and partners so there was an opportunity to network there too.
Really enjoyable (see above)!!!!
We had a trainee talk where most of the trainees had a short chat with us about various activities available outside of work.
I couldn't recommend it enough...
