About You
I really enjoyed the insight! It exceeded my expectations- the people were great and I had the chance to get involved in lots of work. I felt like I learned a lot.
I felt that the work I was set was contributing to the work of other members of the practice group. Also, a lot of time was invested in giving us the opportunity to learn about the various practice groups to help us identify where we might like to work in the future.
The trainees at the firm were particularly helpful and provided an insight into life as a trainee at the firm as well as helping with my understanding of the work. I always felt comfortable asking people questions if I needed clarification or if I wanted to learn a bit more. The
I will use what I learned in helping me make decisions about my future career in law. The information about the practice groups helped me identify areas of law that I might like to spend more time in the future.
The Company
The programme was very well structured- we had a good balance of being involved in work, attending presentations and preparing for our own group presentations. The social events were also very fun and well organised.
The atmosphere was great! Everyone on the vacation scheme got on well and we had lots of opportunity to talk to trainees. There wasn't anyone who I felt I couldn't approach or who wouldn't be willing to talk to me.
We were able to attend talks on various practice groups. All fee-earners were willing to talk over the work with me and I was able to ask questions to enhance my understanding.
The work we were set was work that was relevant to what the practice group was involved in at the time. We didn't feel as vacation scheme students that we were not welcome to get involved in the work. Furthermore, the trainees were willing to talk about their experiences in various seats so we got an understanding of whats difference to expect.
The culture is very much open-door and the firm was a friendly environment to work in. The people there were clearly very busy but always willing to make time to help you in spite of this. Furthermore, everybody made us feel very comfortable and were keen to talk to us and get to know us.
As previously mentioned, the experience indicated that I should keep an open mind about future practices that I might be interested but also help steer me towards a couple that seemed particularly appealing.
Everything Else
I was paid well for the experience (although could be a little more tricky if I didn't have people to stay with in London)
There were a few networking events that were quite well attended. However, even more impressive was the willingness of employees of the firm to meet and talk to you and answer any questions you might have.
The social events were really fun! We went to a table tennis bar, bowling and for a curry with trainees. On top of this there was a couple of internal networking events to meet people at the firm. We were also invited to participate in some sporting events- playing touch rugby in Hyde Park, for example.
Yes, I was able to attend a breakfast seminar held by a senior associate and partner for clients. Furthermore, I played touch rugby with some trainees and was able to attend a Pro Bono event.
Absolutely!
