    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Everything about this placement was enjoyable. The job itself, the company culture and everything new that i have learnt was a great experience. It is very much a sense of work hard play hard, and as an intern you are invited to all the events and parties which are second to none at some great venues.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As an intern you have responsibility from day one and are contributing to office productivity in a big way which automatically gives you a sense of value and belonging in the working environment. You aren't treated as an intern and it's clear from day one what is expected.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • No expense seems to be spaired in the training you're given. I have travelled to London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leciester for different aspects of my training while on my internship with all travel and accomadation paid for. They even give food and drink allowance. Support on the job is always at hand with seriously experienced consultants around you always able to give tips and advice.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There is always something to be done in recruitment, whether it's a client to call or candidate to clear you're always busy. The weeks fly by and although the days are long it seems as though there aren't enough hours in the day.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • You have responsibility from day one of joining the business. There is a lot of on the job training mixed with dedicated academies run by internal trainers, but at the start, although not completely thrown in at the deep end, you are given targets and responsibilities. Upon moving from a candidates focussed desk to a full client desk, you are practically running your own small business with your own clients and candidates with complete control over your business. Generating fee's and representing the company just as much as much as the next consultant. A hugely rewarding and beneficial experience for anyone looking for a taste of running your own business.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I can see the skills i have picked up during my year at Hays being extremely helpful when i return to Uni. Mostly in my time management for planning assessments and my overall knowledge of business and it's wider processes'. I know the experiences and skills I have picked up will be an invaluable resources for my degree and the years after to come.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My office had a fantastic atmosphere. Everyone is working hard but you can have a great laugh at the same time. There is always a buzz about as well which keeps you working hard. All in all a focused working environment but not without it's down time.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised on the whole, training was well laid out and planned and the whole internship programme has just been overhauled and redone so for a brand new system to work as well as it did i have no problems. It was clearly very well thought out and geated towards developing me professionally.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested time and money into my development as a professional and as a consultant. I went on numerous training schemes and was given all the tools in which to perform in my role. Travel was paid for, food paid for and training was to a very high standard, regardless of the fact i am only there for a year internship. You can definitely tell they are investing in you.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The progression scheme at Hays is very fast and if you're good you can move up quickly which is very appealing. The whole company culture and and the job itself are also very enjoyable and diverse making Hays a very desirable place to work. Something i am very seriously considering.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • When going on training you go with interns from around the country and there's always a night out or two when you're away. I've met people i'll be seeing after the internship and got to meet some talented and interesting individuals.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Hays have offices all over the country and so finding an office near you should not be difficult, with that it's not hard to curve costs while on placement due to Hays' flexibility so this shouldn't be a problem if you do it right.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Really good, Hays have office's in all big cities in the UK and there's always a night out on the cards.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are lots of social opportunities created through sponsorships that Hays hold such as that with Manchester City FC. Sports days and football matches have been set up on their new pitches and opportunities to interview players for videos that will be seen online and in marketing have been done.
