About You
I loved it. I felt that I was able to gain a fuller understanding of what it is like to be a trainee lawyer, and in particular what is is like to train at TW. It has confirmed my choice of career, and make me even more excited at the prospect of training with the firm.
The biggest surprise to me on the scheme was how genuinely friendly everyone was. I remember walking past people in week 2 from the department I sat in during week 1 and them stopping to have a chat with me and see how I was getting on. I found that, provided you pick your moment well, senior people were incredibly generous with their time and really took an interest in my wellbeing, and in some instances gave me some great career advice.
For me, the level of support was perfect: it was readily available if necessary, but was not pushed upon you. I feel that this reflects life as a trainee - you will need to have a degree of independence and be able to go and meet people to ask for work if it is quieter, but it is also important to have access to guidance when you need help.
I learnt so much during my two weeks, not just in relation to commercial law, but also in terms of general skills. I was able to pick the brains of a lot of people at the firm, and I feel that I was able to pick up some things that will stand me in very good stead for both my further studies and my career in the law
The Company
I can't stress enough how good the HR/Grad Rec team at TW are. They are obviously true professionals and they know exactly what they are doing. It is no wonder they are a top employer.
The atmosphere was brilliant: I was treated as a member of the team and included both when busy and quieter. I was impressed with the way people kept morale up when things were very busy. The social side was also fantastic as it allowed us to bond as a group without making things seem too competitive.
I have no doubt that the firm cares deeply about their employees and future trainees. This was evident from the beginning of the scheme.
I have a real picture of what it is like to work at TW and this has only fuelled my ambition to work there. The scheme was exactly what I wanted it to be: a chance to experience life as a trainee and to gain access to people who have been there themselves and hear their advice/experiences
I got a clear sense of TW culture. I was impressed how the PR/Grad Rec was truly mirrored in my experience at the firm. It is refreshing to read something in a brochure or hear it at an open day and then actually see it for yourself
I am more motivated than ever to become a lawyer.
Everything Else
I was paid very reasonably and given an extrav£50 for expenses which was a nice surprise
There was a real open door policy and people were so generous with their time.
Not only did we have some great social events (some with partners etc., some with just trainees), we were also included in other internal events such as a business group meeting drinks reception on the fantastic 9th floor terrace!
We were invited to participate in both sports and pro bono via email during the scheme.
If you are interested in undertaking a TC with a Cit law firm I would strongly recommend TW.
