About You
I really enjoyed my placement, by the end of the two weeks at RPC I felt like I'd worked there for ever, which is not in any way a bad thing! There was a wide range of activities and experiences for the vacation scheme students, exposing us to all levels at the firm.
The work that I did was always explained to me - for example, even when asked to file/sort documents the associate went through the case with me so I understood the background. This made me feel like the jobs I was doing were actually helpful. I also received feedback on the work, and towards the end of the week was given more complex things to do - which made me feel I had not only improved but that the associates had taken time to look at what I had done.
As much or as little as I required - I never felt unable to ask for help or clarification.
I think the skills will help me when I move onto the LPC - especially the insight into processes and the drafting work I completed.
The Company
Very well structured, with emails from HR each morning giving us our programme. The only (very small) complaint I would have is that we received a number of handouts, it would have been nice to have had a folder with them all in at the start but that's really just a small comment. Socials were on the whole well-organised. There could have been some more planning with regards the work provision, at some points I was not busy despite asking for work, and at other points I had lots to do. Maybe some reserve research tasks to fill in the slack times, or an individual project to complete?
Really welcoming, friendly from trainee to partner. I felt part of the firm from the first day, despite the short-term nature of the scheme.
I attended trainee sessions and the firm put on projects similar (I think) to the recruitment day, giving us good practice in briefing and writing work. The trip to Lloyds of London was excellent, and really brough alive (!) insurance - something which I had thought I wouldn't be interested in.
I feel I now have a good idea, not only at trainee level but into the future.
Very much so - we were encouraged to get involved in the extra-curricular activities available.
I know that I want to get a TC, and I would really love for it to be at RPC!
Everything Else
It would have been nice to have transport reimbursed, as with accommodation the payment did not cover it.
Yes, we had a networking lunch with partners and then speed-networking with associates and trainees. Trainees were present on most of the socials so we could grill them informally.
Mostly good, the last social was not amazingly planned but that's about it.
Yes - we have a good idea about what is offered to employees.
Definitely.
