The Role
I really enjoyed my experience at PwC, the work itself was engaging and the people on the team fantastic and supportive.
I felt extremely valued, the regular feedback given on jobs let me know how my contribution impacted upon the job. All the teams I worked on were friendly and inclusive. The firm rewards you for your contribution to a job by arranging debriefs at the end of them.
My People Manager was really helpful, she was able to support me through the necessities of work and also provided support for some of my university requirements. I found that many of the seniors were fantastic coaches and able to provide much needed help at points. Everybody in the office was understanding of all the first years permission, as many people will not have any experience and so were more than happy to help when it was necessary.
I was lucky in that none of my jobs really ran late, this is not always the case and so sometimes you can find yourself working very taxing hours. Also, you will find that not all of your work is local, I found I was spending quite a large amount of time driving to clients which can lead to very early starts and late finishes (on the plus side petrol expenses are lovely).
It really depends on the jobs you are assigned to. My largest job resulted in me being given responsibility for the subsidiaries of a company and auditing them from start to finish, this is a huge amount of responsibility for a first year but was great fun and a brilliant challenge which I am definitely the better for.
I have learned a great deal, not just about auditing but also about the way many different companies operate, this will be hugely beneficial in any role I get in the future and I imagine will be hugely beneficial on returning to university. I was also able to start sitting exams for the ACA qualification and so this will save my time in the future as well as providing me with great technical knowledge.
