About You
It was an excellent experience. It provided a really insight into the actually work trainees and solicitors do and also into the different practice areas.
Absolutely valued. The trainees and solicitors gave us real responsibility and work. We were doing the same type of work trainees would do on a day to day basis - it really showed that the firm trusted us. The training and presentations were excellent not only in the Vac Scheme but also as a trainee showing that the firm really invest in their potential employees and care.
Trainees and solicitors thoroughly explained everything they were doing and what we were doing. They gave background into all the cases we worked on so we could understand how our bit fits into the whole puzzle. There was always someone to help if we required advice or help. The graduate recruitment team were also very helpful.
The skills will aid my research skill that I require for my university study. I have strengthened my communication and organisational skills. both of which will complement further study as well as later in my career.
The Company
It was very well structured. We were given a timetable for the whole 2 weeks, all the events went to plan (although there were one or 2 re-arrangements). There was a really mix of practice based work, presentations, lunches and socials.
Excellent. All the vacation scheme students really got on well and helped each other out. Everyone at the firm was really friendly and always ready to help you whatever the issue. It has been a fantastic experience - I thoroughly recommend applying!
The firm organised practice presentations every day which informed us about the different practice areas. The employees were always ready to help us whenever help was needed. It was evident from the vac scheme that firm also provides excellent training to both the trainees and employees - they care about their potential employees.
The vac scheme provided a real insight into what a full time role at the company would be a like - nothing was sugar coated. We employees all acted as they usually would during a normal day - nothing was hidden.
The vac scheme really emphasized that the company had a friendly but also ambitious culture - it has really potential.
The vac scheme has confirmed that I want to go into commercial law and has even helped me narrow down the practice seats I want to sit in if I get a training contract. It has really helped me make decisions about my career and the path I want to take.
Everything Else
I was paid £300 a week.
Yes, partner lunches, trainee lunches and secondment lunches were organised so we could interact with and talk employees at different stages in their career at the firm. There were also office drinks every Friday where we could meet trainees in an informal setting.
Yes, we had 4 evenings with social activities after work - dinner + bowling, office drinks, dinner + circus and office drinks.
There are opportunities to get involved in sports and matches against other law firms, client drinks, practice group drinks/dinners, pro-bono work (volunteering etc.)
Yes, definitely. I had a fantastic time and learnt a lot from just 2 weeks.
