The Role
The placement offered an array of challenges and was spread by working on a series of different activities across a number of programs. This, with the addition of site work made for an enjoyable and exciting placement
From the day I started my opinion was valued and through the duration of the placement I have become a part of the team. All of the team and those I have met in other departments have been friendly, supportive and keen to assist.
The majority of the tasks to complete required minimal input from other members of the team, so I was able to learn and develop my understanding without being "babysat" however the management team were always on hand if I had a question and were supportive with both the work I was completing and the University assessments that I submitted throughout the year.
There was never a dull day and the in tray never ran dry but the work flow was manageable and I never felt overrun by work. Some days were busy when activities were nearing completion and I was able to manage my time to ensure that I could get the work done.
As the placement developed I received more responsibility, from working with customers on-site or at customer premises to managing test activities with a team, I was given a range of responsibilities that gave me challenges and further allowed me to develop my skills
My Managers were keen for me not only develop the skills I already had but also gave me the opportunity to add to my skill set over the year. The skills I gained, such as management, commissioning and interpersonal skills, are supplementary to those gained at University and will be invaluable in my further study and when I start my career.
The Company
The atmosphere was generally very good, with a good humored approach taken by all and a relatively informal atmosphere. Staff were approachable, friendly and willing to help out.
Overall the placement was well organised with consistent work on projects forming the core of my activities with other opportunities for development well placed throughout the year.
The placement itself formed the core of the development, which was supplemented with additional opportunities that allowed me to get a greater appreciation of engineering practice.

Financial Bonus
The work was varied and enjoyable and I got the impression that you could make good progress with the company if you show ambition and initiative. Added to that, successful internships are given the opportunity to "fast track" onto the graduate program without going through the assessment process again. making for an appealing prospect post university.
The Culture
I was not in close contact with the other interns on a day to day level so there was a limted social scene amongst the placement students.
Living costs were reasonable and not as high as you'd expect from other big cities
Wasn't a strong nightlife in the local area but it was a short distance to Manchester City Centre.
There were a number of social events throughout the year but I was not aware of any regular clubs or social gatherings.
