The Role
The placement was a great experience and I not only got to meet other interns but also bonded well with colleagues all over the company. The working environment is top class which makes the placement more enjoyable and the people you work with also help to improve your attitude to work.
Working with Virgin Media Business gave me a lot of responsibility and after a few weeks I fitted into the team and was valued by colleagues all over the organisation. VMB gave me the exposure to the business and I was able to work with a wide range of people. The shout scheme that Virgin has enabled colleagues to express how impressed they were with me which helped to improve my work attitude and feel valued within the company as more than just an intern.
Throughout my placement my manager was there to support me constantly, and I also got a lot of support from others in the team and all over the business in training and knowledge development.
My placement involved a lot of work and there could be some days where I would have to work longer than my working hours and others where I just had enough work to do. There was never any time where I was bored, and even when I had too much work at times I was given support by others if needed.
I was given the responsibility of organising my departments charity day and helping to head up one of the Q2 objectives. The business gave me a great amount of responsibility and I never felt undervalued.
I was poor at presenting and when my manager realised this he pushed me to present my findings in team meetings and to other teams. Although this was tough it meant that I developed my presenting skills in a work atmosphere. I also had the chance to carry out numerous courses and attend conferences both internally and externally.
The Company
Atmosphere was fun until the end of the month when everything got busier and more stressful but everyone remained positive.
The placement was organised in a way that we could all keep in touch as an intern community but sometimes it was hard to socialise as interns as well as carrying out my day to day job.
The company let me attend courses and offered online training, as well as allowing me to job shadow other teams to understand what they do and attend internal and external conferences.

Working for this company would be very appealing, I like the perks you get and the people are so good to work with which improves the attitude in the office. I will be looking for any jobs available when I finish my placement and I have networked so that I can get as much exposure as possible.
The Culture
Other placement students were frequently going out and we would sit together at lunch when we got chance. The scheme enabled a lot of days where we could socialise as an intern community and the intern call enabled us to catch up.
Cost of living down south is a lot more expensive than i am used to in the midlands but then there could be seen there is more to do.
Although there wasn't much nightlife available in the surrounding area we still socialised and went into London for nights out.
Lots of opportunities to socialise with other colleagues and there were activities such as out of work football teams.
