    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was given lots of projects and tasks throughout my placement which kept me busy and meant I was always learning something new about the company. I met some great people and have gained some invaluable skills for the future.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Honestly the nicest people I've ever met. I was valued by my colleagues and praised for doing a good job, I was treated as though I had always been a part of the company.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support was always available from my line manager, whether I needed to be shown how to do something or just ask a quick question, my manager was always willing to provide help. There is also a mentor scheme at TNT where someone will take on the role of being your mentor, their job is to offer advice and support in work and personal related situations.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days were quieter than others, for example when I was waiting on other people to provide me with information before I could continue it could often be quiet, but there was always something else to be done.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • 2 of my projects involved liaising with internal and external stakeholders, I set up/attended meetings to present the progress/update of the project. I was responsible for making decisions regarding the projects and my line manager supported my decisions. The amount of responsibility I was given was great, I didn't feel like a student on a placement, I felt like a permanent valued and trusted colleague of TNT.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed many transferable skills while on placement that will assist me for both my studies and future career. The 12 months experience has opened my eyes to the world of business, I have gained skills in project management, change management, the ability to be work independent on a regular basis and the ability to communicate to anyone at any level.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Generally the office was very relaxed with a nice atmosphere.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think the placement was very well organised, in particular the induction week. There were 8 of us in total and we spent the first week together in a meeting room completing group exercises, learning about the company history and visiting various sites and depots to gain further insight about the company.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were invited to complete 2 training courses whilst at TNT. 'An introduction into leadership and management' and 'how to prepare and deliver an effective presentation'

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have left my contact details with HR so that I can stay in touch with TNT when I go back to University and see what opportunities are available once i have graduated.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • After our induction week, my fellow placements students and I became good friends, we'd meet for lunch most days and had a whatsapp group to message outside of work. I would also go out for drinks with the marketing department on a regular basis.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home while on placement.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Atherstone is a very small town so it does not have a big social attraction, if we had social nights out we would choose nearby cities such as Coventry or Birmingham. There are a couple of pubs in Atherstone which were handy for a quick drink after work on a Friday.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not that I am aware of
