    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my work placement as it gave me a high degree of experience and exposure in different fields. My role has provided me with strong experience and Hays have supported me every step of the way. Every day is completely different and that's the best part about this job.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Always felt valued by my colleagues and managers. Over the course of the 12 months I did not feel at once like an intern or a junior, I always felt like the same as all of my colleagues. I was given the same responsibilities and tasks as my colleagues.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given extensive support and guidance throughout my placement year. In the first 3 months I was given detailed training which gave me all of the tools to become a successful consultant. If I ever had a question or query then I could always ask someone and they would always be happy to help. Even after your first 3 months training phase, you would continuously have meeting with your manager and mentor to make sure you're on track.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very busy on a daily basis, as mentioned no second day is the same. Although the hours are very long (8:30 -6 pm), once you get into the thick of the job the hours fly by. Over the course of the day you just don't have enough hours, and that for me is the fun part. My placement year has flown by and I can't believe I have done so much over the course of the year. I have become the national East of England Talent Scout and also a nominee for the Intern of the year award.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I managed the accountancy and finance desk in the Milton Keynes office and was given full responsibility on my desk. This allowed me to utilise my skills and become the best consultant possible. At one stage I had 30 temporary workers working for me and was continuously billing £7,000 per month.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • All of the skills learnt and developed are relevant to my degree and also my future career. In this job you focus on communication and people management, these skills are valuable and used in every field to some degree.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the Milton Keynes office was amazing, my manager was literally the best manager ever. We have around 25 employees in our office and usually go out for office meals / drinks on regular occasions. We celebrate success ones a month on a Friday where the whole office gets together and we have drinks. We also have Pizza at lunch on regular occasions and also have employees bringing in a variety of dishes to share (mines was the winner... Samosas). The Milton keynes office is a bubbly and lively place and I couldn't have asked for a better office for my placement year.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well set up and I had regular training over the course of the year. You have in depth training in your first 3 months and then have regular catch up sessions with senior managers over the course of the year. The office is very clean and recently refurbished.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested a lot of time and money in me. I was sent to London Cheapside for 3 days training (everything paid for) which was absolutely amazing.

  • I travelled from Bedford to Milton Keynes. it was a 30 minute drive everyday which I found okay. The parking in MK can be expensive (£10 per week). There is a massive shopping centre and a cinema as well as food places and clubs to go to.
