The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year. I gained a huge amount of experience and have developed key skills such as project management and working as part of a team.
I felt very valued by my team. There was always a great atmosphere in the office and everyone was really welcoming from the first day. I was always given feedback from colleagues and praised for the good work I had done.
I regularly had 1:1 meetings with my manager to discuss my progress and to see if there were areas of development/opportunities for me to increase my skills. By doing this, I was also able to keep my manager up to date with the projects I was delivering on and he could therefore see the impact I was having.
There was rarely a day when I wasn't busy. As the year went on and I took on more projects and responsibility my workload increased and I was kept busy managing projects and completing various tasks.
After my first few weeks I was given projects to manage and work on as part of a team. This responsibility increased with the more projects I had and was required to deliver on projects to deadlines and within budget.
The training I received and the skills I have developed will be really valuable to me. Presentation skills was an area I particularly wanted to improve upon and I was given numerous opportunities to present in front of a range people this year which has been really beneficial to my development, especially going into my final year.
The Company
The atmosphere was always really relaxed and friendly within the office. As I have mentioned, everyone was welcoming from the first day and looking to provide you with as much support as you needed. This made going into work really enjoyable.
Very well - all systems that I needed access to were ready for me on my first day and there were set projects for me to be involved in. These developed as the year went on and gained exposure to further parts of the business too.
There were numerous training days both general marketing training days and also brand specific. Six Sigma Yellow belt training was also offered to placement students as well as having the opportunity to volunteer at a local school for the day (something which is great on a CV).

Really appealing, there is real drive for personal development and people are able to work their way up the career ladder here.
The Culture
Yes, there was a good social scene and many of us arranged nights out locally and in London.
I lived at home but hearing from others I believe rent was reasonable for the area where they lived. Socialising was similar, unless we went into London where prices are more expensive.
The nightlife was good, however we tended to go out more towards London.
As a team we arranged nights out and social occasions and there are clubs that run at lunchtime such as running club or playing football.
