The Role
Despite my short stay I managed to get my teeth into a solid piece of work and also gained a general understanding of all areas of the company. I also came to understand what it would be like to be working as an engineer day to day.
Any work I provided was well received but also assessed in order to give me constructive criticism.
I felt more than comfortable asking any questions or queries I had about anything.
Naturally there were gaps during my time where I would research/delve into the company intranet, but generally I had some work to do most of the time. Also a lot of time was spent in meetings.
On the pieces of work I was given, it was my sole responsibility to complete them and then they would be checked before final submission. I was also given responsibility to communicate with various suppliers.
The placement definitely improved my communication and interpersonal skills and made me realise what I needed to be good at in my degree which would be relevant in the job.
The Company
Nice and friendly. Everyone in my area was sat next to people in unrelated teams which encourages mixing of different people.
I received a plan of what my internship would be on a week by week basis and it pretty much followed it in terms of what I would do/learn each week.
I attended a dimensional control specification and validation course which were spread over two separate mornings. These were presented and executed extremely well and I followed it even though it was for full time employees. I was also taught how to use the various tools which the engineers use. Further more I attended the ride and drive event where I drove an XJ, XF and F type round the test circuits and reached 175mph.

I feel this experience has put me in a good position to do a longer internship of about 3 months (this was 6 weeks). After which the opportunity to get a graduate position would arise.
The Culture
There were various pub meetings with fellow colleagues. I didn't meet any other placement students.
The site is pretty much in the middle of nowhere but I commuted from Solihull where I live which is a great area.
There isn't any but that is hardly a priority. Bad question!
There were some social activity meets like bowling etc but apart from that I didn't hear of much.
