About You
I found the vacation scheme placement thoroughly enjoyable - much more so than any other placement I have done with law firms. I was given more engaging work and felt more like a part of the team than anywhere else. All colleagues were very accommodating.
Very much so. It felt as though the tasks I was being given actually mattered to the firm and were not simply just meaningless tasks handed over to the temporary employee.
I received lots of helpful support, both from my supervisor, other colleagues and my trainee supervisor.
Degree studies came just a bit too late! But certainly the skills I have developed further here at Walker Morris will only serve to benefit me in whatever future career I have... fingers crossed!
The Company
The structure was excellent, with no two days the same, plenty of varying work to be done and fun assessments (which seems a bit of jarring notion) breaking up everything nicely. Organised socials also helped to feel like you really were a true part of the firm for the week.
Brilliant - don't have a bad word to say about it. The perfect balance between everybody having fun and a real focus and drive placed on quality work.
There is only so much a firm can do in my eyes when it comes to investing in an individual whose odds of staying at that firm beyond the week are not the best, if only for the reason that applying for a future career with that firm is so competitive that some people inevitably miss out. Having said that, the importance of the work I was given and the interest everybody seemed to take in me was a welcome change from the 'here's your task, get on with it' approach, so I absolutely do feel like the firm invested in me and trusted the quality of work that I could produce.
It is only a week, so I'm not really sure, but if every week was like this past week at Walker Morris then I could imagine it to be thoroughly enjoyable, challenging and rewarding working there.
It was impressed upon us from the word go both how Walker Morris sets itself apart and what they look for in potential employees.
It was certainly valuable in the sense that it has reinforced a legal career as a serious option for my future career path. 3 heavy years of law had taken it's toll and I was beginning to doubt that a legal career was a good option for me, despite having enjoyed all placements I'd previously been on. But having spent this past week with Walker Morris, I have changed my mind on that and am now strongly considering a career in law again.
Everything Else
I wasn't actually expecting to be paid, but it was a more than welcome bonus!
Absolutely - plenty of introductions, socials, and a variety of people setting you work.
Brilliant. There was one official social during the week, but this effectively spread to 3 when other unofficial ones are included.
Not really, but there is a caveat to this. I couldn't work on the Tuesday but the trainees gave presentations about everything to do with the firm, and I understand that one was one the firm's activities outside of work so I am sure I would have been fully informed.
Absolutely.
