About You
The scheme was really enjoyable and fun. There were a lot of activities ranging from socials to presentations to help you get a better grasp of what the firm is all about. The scheme was relaxed in order for you to be yourself and not feel too under pressure.
All employees were very thankful of the help and assistance that we were able to provide, and even if the students could not help with one particular matter, employees were very appreciative of the offer to help.
Trainees and supervisors were always on hand if you needed to ask something or needed clarification. They were understanding and encouraging and tried to give you a realistic idea of the type of work undertaken by a trainee.
All experiences of analysing documents and taking the most salient points from them will help develop my analytical skills for the final year of my degree.
The Company
There was a great balance between work inside and outside the departments. We were in the departments for long enough to be able to get a useful insight into the practice area, but there was also a lot on offer throughout the day and evening in order to get a taste of the social side of the firm and to get to know the people you were working alongside.
Everyone was very friendly and not too serious. There was a lot of involvement of trainees, associates and partners in the weekly activities in order to get an insight into a broad range of employees and all employees were more than happy to be apart of the summer scheme.
A lot of investment is put into the summer scheme students as they really want to recruit as many of them as the firm can in the long run, and so much effort is exerted in order to start developing you into RPC lawyers and business advisers as fast as the firm can.
Students got a very good idea about the different departments on offer and the work that trainees do within them, as well as the structure of the training contract in terms of choosing seats and having different reviews with HR when it comes to moving seats.
The culture is one of the most important aspects of working at RPC, and the firm works extremely hard to always make chances for the better and try new things in order to keep its employees happy and satisfied.
Getting an insight into the work of the firm really helped me to decide that this is the type of work that I want to do and the type of environment in which I want to work.
Everything Else
Students were remunerated appropriately.
There were plenty of opportunities to meet employees of all stages of their career during the scheme. In particular, the firm made an effort to help you get to meet people from the departments that students were not working in.
The social events were a lot of fun with the trainees and there was also the opportunity to get to know the other students better with our own social event. The networking opportunities offered the chance to ask the associates and partners questions that you would not otherwise have the opportunity to ask.
The trainees and lawyers also spoke about the activities that the whole firm gets involved in, ranging from the House system where all employees get together, to the pre-joining programme for trainees that allow them to get to know each other better before commencing the training contract.
I would absolutely recommend this scheme to a friend, as it offers a fantastic mix of getting to know the type of work the firm does, as well as getting an insight into the culture and people of the firm.
