About You
Great placement to understand the culture of the firm and how it operates.
Work that was set was things that actually needed to be done and not tasks that had already been done/simply been invented. Occasionally felt like admin work but to be expected when you're not a qualified solicitor.
Lots of time to ask questions about next career steps and clarify if you didn't understand a task. Lots of emails sent daily to help guide you through the Scheme.
Helped to see theoretical studies actually put into practice and what a solicitor actually does day to day compared to what is talked about in promotional material.
The Company
Clear timetable of where to be and what time. Good balance between getting an insight into the firm as a whole and experiencing what goes on in the departments.
Very friendly and approachable firm. Trainees will come over to your desk for a chat, answer any questions you have, take you out to lunch or join you in the canteen, Partners and associates are exactly the same.
Lots of training into the IT systems and library etc. to make sure you could make the most of the Scheme. Plenty of talks on how you can progress in the future and what to expect if you joined as a Trainee Solicitor.
The whole Scheme was basically spending two weeks as a Trainee. Both from the tasks that were set, the workshops that were provided and the social side as well.
Everybody seemed to act the way they would normally do if the Summer Scheme students weren't there. There were no pretences and spending so much time with the employees allowed you to get a real feel for the culture of the firm.
Upon leaving, it was clear that I would be lucky to start my career at the firm. A great place with great clients.
Everything Else
2 week internship, £275 per week.
Lots of networking lunches and social events to get to know partners, trainees and associates.
Lots of networking events within the firm as well as drinks, a treasure hunt, bowling and an impromptu lunch with the trainees outside the firm. Also drinks with just the summer scheme students.
Lots of clubs to get involved in, including football and choir. Charity fundraising events as well but not much mention of pro bono work.
Well recommended if you're looking for insight into an ambitious and growing mid-tier firm.
