The Role
I had the most enjoyable year of my life, working with a great team, making great friends and learning a lot. I developed technical skills as well as soft skills and confidence in myself.
Entirely, your work was always appreciated. It created an environment where you wanted to do more than expected because you genuinely wanted to help people out.
Always felt supported, they have an excellent 'Counsellor' system where you have someone to help with getting the experiences you want and guide you through the year.
Days varied, there were peaks and troughs of busy times. I never had a day where I had no work to do though. It was the kind of environment where you can turn to the person next to you and help them out if you were quiet. Equally, everyone helped each other so no one was every completely swamped with work for too long.
I was treated like an Associate (1st or 2nd year joiner) and worked as part of a team of 2 many times where I was leading the tasks and being the main point of contact, just with oversight or QC from a Manager.
I am so much more confident in myself and my ability. I will take this forward to the rest of university along with a whole breadth of new and developed technical skills that will no doubt stand me in very good stead. In hindsight, I don't know how I would have completed final year without this placement.
The Company
I loved the camaraderie created in the lab we sit in. Everyone gets on very well in a professional and social way. We work well as teams but the atmosphere is very light hearted. I never felt uncomfortable asking for help or asking questions.
Very well organised. Firm-wide there are many placement students so you all have an induction week first and socials/training days throughout the year. This is where I made some of my closest friends and student recruitment do everything possible to keep those relationships strong, across-cluster, throughout the year.
I got the opportunity to go on training courses for various different skills, more than I expected for a placement student and I value the investment they've put into the placement scheme!

Very appealing - I wouldn't think twice about taking a job with them after graduation! Your placement year counts so you get a head start in that respect.
The Culture
The placement scheme had regular socials and training events where all students could catch up. This included bringing the 'regional' workers down for days or weekends for such events.
London living was more expensive than I was used to at university in Bristol, in ways of rent and travel.
Great nightlife - London has something for everyone! From casual post-work drinks on the river to nights out in Soho or Shoreditch - never 2 nights the same!
Many opportunities through work (sports clubs and groups) but also opportunities separate to work to try new things. I joined diving for 6 months in the Olympic pool.
