The Role
I really enjoyed my placement at EY, I was very involved in different tasks, I was given some responsibilities. I have really learned a lot during this year.
Most of the time I was working in a team. I really enjoyed team working, I think that you learn even more as you work with senior people who are always willing to help and share their skills with you.
For each job, my manager was very attentive and gave the necessary support to integrate me in the team.
Most of the year I had chargeable work, either in the FIDS or the Audit department. On a daily basis, I used to start the day at 9 and finish around half 6. Actually your working hours also really depend on the deadlines. Sometimes you need to work late but it's always enjoyable! Otherwise when I was less busy, I was involved in non-chargeable work (Oil & Gas sector, Social Committee, etc).
During my placement I was given a lot of responsibilities for an intern. Sometimes you need to take responsibilities yourself as well.
I have learned a lot during my placement year on different aspects. First I have developed and learned accounting skills which would be very helpful for my accounting/finance degree. I have learned to behave professionally, being more organised and very responsive. Then I have also learned how to develop and maintain good relationships both with my colleagues and the clients. I think it's a very good strength for my career.
The Company
People in my department and with who I worked with were really nice. I really appreciate the fact they were always willing to help and give me responsibilities.
This year was extremely well-organised. First of all, all the interns had a very good follow-up from the Student Recruitment team. We received regular emails to give us the necessary information. Also at a department level, I was first introduced by another intern who helped me to settle. And then during the year, I had regular meetings with my counsellor who always gave the right advice and he was very helpful.
At the beginning of the placement, we had a full week of induction which helped to have a better understanding for the year. Then during the year, we had very useful training days. I wish we could have more training such as Excel training at the start.

At the end of the placement, we have a chance to get a graduate offer to come back to the firm after final year of uni. I have realised, after having discussed with people, when you are working for EY, you can move easily on an internal level - you have the chance to do secondments in other departments and also moving abroad. I have worked with people from Australian, German or Spanish offices.
The Culture
During the year we had a lot of social events organised either with other interns or with colleagues (drinks, doughnut mornings, treats, etc). I believe it helps to create and maintain good relationships with people.
The office is located in a nice area where there are a lot of offices, restaurants, bars and food shops. I think the cost of living and socialising was reasonable for being in Central London.
We have plenty of choices for bars around the office which was a good advantage for having drinks with colleagues after work.
We had the opportunity to get involved in different committees. As far as I'm concerned, I was involved in the Social Committee which organised the social events for the department. But you could also be involved in the CSR Committee, the Women Network Committee, etc.
