About You
I loved my time at Taylor Wessing and it would absolutely be a place I would want to work in the future.
Everyone at the firm, even the busiest partner, had time to offer work and give advice and guidance. We were given a good level of responsibility, and the feedback given when we completed the tasks was comprehensive. There were many events where we could network with people from around the firm and social events created a bond between the Vac Schemers at an early stage.
HR were excellent and dealt with issues quickly. The buddy system was invaluable in getting us settle into the firm so we could really get on with work and try and make an impression. We were also given insight sessions into all of the practice areas of the firm, and it really brought what you learnt in law school to life. We were encouraged to research more into the firm and meet with Partners working on projects that particularly interested you. When speaking to established Lawyers it was extremely helping seeing the Lawyer's role inside the wider economy and it really hit home the importance of commercial awareness and business skills.
The nature of the work meant that time management was key. I also found that my communication skills improved through speaking with clients, but also when working in a team in a high pressure situations. A combination of the above, as well as the level of responsibility given, has increased my confidence when working in a demanding and fast paced environment.
The Company
The insight was very well structured and we were given a comprehensive support network, as well as a extensive introduction into working into a City Law firm.
The atmosphere of the firm was excellent. Although the work was demanding and sometimes difficult, the atmosphere created through the support network, modern offices (with a roof terrace canteen), and general ethos of the firm make it easy to reach the high and ambitious standards expected by the firm and their clients. The social events ensured that the Vac Schemers had a bond from an early stage, which was really beneficial when working in teams in high pressure situations.
We were given seminars and skills sessions which prepared you to deal with demanding tasks
Everyone was very honest about the expectations of the firm in terms of working hours and recruitment criteria, and it will be very helpful when applying for training contracts. The work was very interesting, and although demanding, there was a high level of job satisfaction and the firm made sure that you are appreciated for your efforts.
We had 'values lunch' with senior Partners at the firm. They explained how the values differentiated TW from competition and how they kept at the cutting edge of the law.
It was invaluable in helping me decide whether being a City Lawyer was right for me.
Everything Else
We were paid a very reasonable amount, and my expenses for travel and accommodation were covered.
We were actively encouraged to go out and explore other departments, and ask about projects that took your interest. There were an excellent number of events where we could meet with people from all over the.
The trainees took us bowling, as well to a karaoke bar, and a curry house. The events were excellent for team building and my Vac Scheme was full of great people.
There are many sports teams at the firm and they regularly run team building events.
