The Role
I really enjoyed my placement - I learnt a lot about the audit/accounting industry and worked with some great people.
My colleagues always thanked me when I completed a piece of work particularly well. This made it clear that my colleagues did value the effort I put into my work.
My seniors and managers were very helpful and answered all of my queries.
I was busy enough on a day-to-day basis so that I didn't get bored. Some days I had to work long hours but overall I had a sufficient work-life balance.
I was given quite a lot of responsibility during my placement. I was responsible for the sections which I was working on. I was happy with the level of responsibility I was given.
My placement has strengthened my understanding of accounting systems and auditing. I think this will enable me to grasp concepts more quickly when I return to university.
The Company
There was a really great atmosphere in the office and everyone was really friendly and welcoming.
The year placement was well set up and managed. However, it would have been slightly better if we were told the location of our clients before finding accommodation as this is where we spend the majority of our time.
EY paid for everyone on the industrial placement to train as a Chartered Accountant and complete some of their exams while on placement. While at college we were still paid full salary which was really good.

There are lots of really good opportunities for promotion at EY and a clear progression path.
The Culture
Everyone was very social and friendly
The cost of living in Bristol is quite high but you can still live comfortably on an intern wage if you get a modest room in a shared house.
Good nightlife in Bristol and a big student scene.
Emails of activities outside the office were frequently sent. However, I did not attend many events other than large events such as the Christmas and Summer party, which were both really good.
