About You
It was a great experience - the people were fantastic to work with (i was in the Tax branch in the Newcastle office) and the atmosphere was very welcoming. I was mostly kept busy and even had an away-day during my time!
I definitely felt valued - I was entrusted with lots of jobs to do that would then actually be sent to clients such as drafting email responses, filling out forms and spreadsheets etc. Not often at all would i be given menial tasks.
As well as being welcoming, everyone in Newcastle tax at Deloitte were really helpful - i could email them or ask them for help at any time, and they would always explain anything if i was still unsure. No question too stupid!
I have definitely learnt a lot more about the tax business - how it fits in the economy, the role of companies such as Deloitte, and how I can fit into it. Skills developed/information received will definitely be useful for after my degree.
The Company
Very well structured - a couple of induction days in which interview hints and tips were given were followed by a tax specific introduction and then straight away there was work readily available for me to do. My partner interview was arranged a week beforehand
Very nice atmosphere. As mentioned previously, everybody was very welcoming, patient and i could ask any question without worry. Especially nice was how friendly the senior managers, directors and partners were during my time.
At the start there were two days of induction and interview preparation. Then we had another day being taught about the computer system and tax specifically. Finally, i was given personal help whenever i needed to learn how to use a new program.
Very much so. I was able to get involved with the day-to-day workings of the firm, as well as shadowing senior members of the firm. This enabled me to see what it would be like during different stages of working in Deloitte.
A lot. Everyone was so welcoming and was willing to chat with me anytime. Company culture is most obvious when you get a 'feeling', and my impression of the culture at deloitte was definitely very good.
Extremely valuable. It gave me an opportunity to see what kind of work takes place it deloitte, and whether it was something i would want to do for the next few years. Furthermore, speaking to recent graduates helped me understand how they were finding the transition into working with deloitte.
Everything Else
Was paid around £17000 pro rata salary (so approximately £1000 for 3 weeks) and reimbursed my train expenses to the initial induction
Yes - everyday we could meet and talk to people around the office, on the away day we could speak to employees from a different office, we went out for a social as well to get to know everyone.
The away-day was great! As was the social dinner as well. All in all, very well organised.
Yes, there was mention of tutoring students, whether it's subject matter or helping them with university applications, as well as supporting a local state school by getting pupils to have higher aspirations
Yes - very good placement, great atmosphere, very accommodating of the fact i needed physiotherapy following an operation and couldn't come into work right on time every day, and gave me a good insight into work at Deloitte.
