The Role
I thouroughly enjoyed my placement at Aldi - the levels of responsibility involved and the confidence that you gain are unparallelled with other placement schemes. Aldi truely helps you grow as a person and offers a unique working experience.
The relationship with colleagues within stores at Aldi is extremely family orientated - everyone constantly try's to help eachother and you are always respected and valued by colleagues.
There is always support and guidance available - if ever there is a problem, you are not alone.
Aldi keeps employees extremely busy - however this should not be mistaken for uncontrolled chaos. During my placement I very rarely 'rested' so to speak at work however this made every day absolutely fly by. Just because you are busy does not mean it is not enjoyable, I would much rather ne kept busy and active than sitting behind a desk.
The levels of responsibility given to me during my placement shocked even myself. Several weeks after coming into the company to be given full responsibility for running a multi-million pound store is definately unlike any other placement. This responsibility makes employees thrive and I am thankful I was given this responsbility as it enabled me to grow as a person.
The skills I have developed will inevtiably help me throughout life. Aldi teaches you to be in complete control at all time. Time management and people management skills are now at an all time high for myself.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was always extremely upbeat. Everybody seems to enjoy working at Aldi and as a manager it is your role to keep the mood upbeat. Atmosphere within work was always positive and made me look forward to working.
The placement scheme set up is extremely structured and well organised.
Aldi offered me vast amounts of training and peronsal development - the new training and tests ensure a solid understanding of all business aspects - the resources invested in me throughout my placement have been huge and definately makes me feel valued.
Company Parties/Events
Future employment prospects are extremely good within Aldi with clear progression to the graduate scheme.
The Culture
The social scene at Aldi is often berated, however the social life is what you make of it. Aldi is not a simple 9-5 job, however if you wish to work in retail, no job will be 9-5 and the pay Aldi offers more than reflects this. If you wish to have a social life this is more than possible with myself seeing friends and family on a regular basis.
The cost of living and socialising was not extortionate like some places however it was not neccessarily 'cheap'. Fortunately, Aldi's salary is more than generous so this counteracts any costs involved.
There was nightlife available if I wished to travel however due to cost involved this was rare.
Activities outside of work can be hard to engage in whilst in store however again it is what you make of it. If you wish to spend free time doing activites rather than sat on the sofa then there are plenty of opportunities.
