    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at GSK spent in the HR department. It was an extremely valuable experience in which I learnt a variety of new skills that I can apply to my final year at university and the world of work post graduation. Overall it’s been a great year, a lot of fun and I’ve made a few close friends who I hope to keep in contact with

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My role meant I was able to connect with people across the business, particularly overseas in the US and Asia Pacific. I was able to have close relationships with my colleagues and therefore felt valued by them as a member of the team

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager and I worked closely together during my placement year and I was provided with a lot of support and guidance. I was encouraged to attend both online training and practical development sessions in order to improve my confidence and perform well within my role

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had a comfortable work load throughout the year handling different projects such as recruitment, social media, comms and development as well as attending meetings with colleagues and organising events. My workload has allowed be to become more flexible, adaptable to change and highly organised in terms of prioritising my work

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given more responsibility as my time went on at GSK. You can become as little or as much involved in projects as you wish and therefore your level of responsibility can vary

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Skills such as organisation, time management, being both flexible and adaptable will definitely help me with my final year at university however the more practical experience I have gained at GSK will be hugely beneficial post graduation in future jobs

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming and employees are encouraged to change seats within the office to meet/connect with new people

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • GSK is a highly valued organisation and its placement programme reflects this as the year was well structured and organised

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • GSK invested heavily in my development as I attended a variety of online led courses as well as formal instructor led courses on resilience etc. I was also given a coach to help with any concerns/issues I was having within my role. There is a wide variety of developmental training available to GSK employees

  • Very appealing. I would jump at the chance to return to GSK as I have had a great year

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes the placement community is very strong and organises regular social events outside of work. I have made some great friends during my time at GSK and hope to stay in touch with them

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived outside of London so can't comment on the living costs however the socialising costs seem to be fairly reasonable around Brentford

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Brentford is a fairly quiet place and there isn't much nightlife however London is a quick train journey away and the social life there is great!

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Apart from social events through the placement network, I wasn't aware of any activities that I could get involved in
