The Role
Great company to work for, with staff members very welcoming and easy to work with.
All students integrated fully into the team and projects with a great deal of insight gained into current drug discovery research.
At the start my supervisor was very tentative and provided great support when learning new techniques. As the year went on, my supervisor left me to get on with my work but was always extremely approachable if help was required.
Placement was very busy on a daily basis with plenty of chemistry to do. However, opportunity to go to talks/ lectures was always given to expand personal knowledge in other areas outwith the lab.
Given targets every week which I had to synthesize and sometimes work out how to make.
Practical skills will be invaluable for continuing studies, allowed experience in being innovative and self-thinking.
The Company
Our office was extremely friendly, with all members being approachable if help required and also generally friendly.
Placement was set up extremely well, with a training week at the start of the year the once again become familiar with a lab and to meet peers
Weekly tutorials for students were put on by various members of staff to encourage continuous learning and also avaliability to attend lectures and courses.
Flexi Time
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Very appealing, many graduate schemes and pHD opportunities. Would definitely consider returning to GSK.
The Culture
Events around Christmas time and other occassions were extremely good with my lab colleagues. There are organised student events through IP unite and also individually groups of students would organise events.
Stevenage is average pricing and good when considering close proximity to London.
Close to London which is good but Stevenage itself poor
