The Role
While it took me a while to get started, once I began getting busier the placement became more enjoyable as a result.
I had little knowledge of lean manufacturing coming into this placement and my supervisors were always willing to explain the procedures and theory to me.
My workload tended to vary, some weeks I would be very busy while other weeks would be slow.
The further I got into the placement the more responsibility I was given and my supervisors trusted me to get on with any tasks I was given without the need for constant supervision.
Lean manufacturing is not covered on my course which meant I had to learn everything from scratch however this also means that I would not have gained this knowledge without undertaking this placement and lean is quite a key part of engineering in the workplace.
The Company
The office was open and there was a good balance between work and chat.
It took a few months to get going however once I was settled I had a decent balance of work and my supervisors were always there to help me whenever I had any questions.
The only external training I recieved was Excel, from basic to advanced level. Any other training was on the job, learning concepts of lean etc.
National Travel
Faurecia have links to the VIE scheme and will provide assistance to any students who decide to apply for the scheme after graduation.
The Culture
There were 9 students in the Fradley plant and we all got along well, organising a few events thorughout the year however we were all quite spread out living-wise so these were limited.
I lived in the nearby city of Lichfield, purely for travel reasons, where the rent is really expensive so I would not recommend living there. If you have a car then Burton is not too far a distance and is much cheaper.
Lichfield has a decent number of pubs however is pretty lacking when compared to the bigger nearby cities such as Birmingham.
Faurecia itself did not provide any activities outside of work.
