The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed, met great people and learnt a lot from my colleagues. Faced various challenges and was never left without anything to do.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues and I was relied upon a lot of the time. My colleagues have recognised my efforts as well.
At the start of placement I received enough support but the more I settled in, the more I was left on my own with tasks and projects. My supervisor left the company 3 months before I finished, but I think I have developed more as a professional without his supervision.
Can't remember a time where I didn't have something to do. Always had daily tasks to carry out and project work to do with my colleagues. I had to create a daily schedule to manage my time effectively to get everything done.
I was given a lot of responsibility, There are various Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) that needed to be updated in order for the plant manager to track the engineering side of things. I was also in charge of raising orders for the maintenance department and PPE. The tasks I had to do HAD to be completed every day.
Only a few specific things such as Pareto analysis and CAD work. There is a lot of things I have learnt this year that I can implement in my final year though.
The Company
Great atmosphere, was professional when it needed to be but most of the time everyone is pretty relaxed and always having a good laugh.
The placement system was really well organized, all the new student went through an induction in Leamington Spa where we took part in team games, and there were various presentations about what they had in store for us. Another one at the end of the placement.
Received a couple of training sessions on ordering and lean manufacturing, but nothing accredited.
Company Parties/Events
Very appealing, the best scheme I have seen a company offer. Graduate roles are preferred to be filled by placement students, and all the opportunities are international.
The Culture
All the placement students at my plant integrated very well, and socialized throughout the year.
North England is pretty cheap compared to the south. A lot of student rates as well.
Newcastle has the best nightlife in England.
None, just a couple of social nights.
