The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement with SAP I feel it has given me invaluable experience and skills to take in to any future career I want to pursue.
Since day one at SAP I was treated like any other employee and trusted with tasks that permanent members of staff had carried out previously. SAP put a lot of trust in their interns and they really appreciate how you help the company throughout your placement.
I reported to three managers throughout my placement and I always felt that I had someone to turn to if I had any issues or questions that I was unsure about. I feel this is very important as it can be quite daunting stepping in to the business world for the first time.
Throughout my whole placement I have been busy although in a manageable sense. Obviously there were certain times when the volume and traffic of work increased (end of quarter or meeting deadlines) and some quieter spells where I could then partake in other projects.
I feel that the responsibility that SAP put in to there interns is exceptional and shows the amount of trust and value we offer to the business in such a short period of time.
I feel a successful placement year is almost as valuable as the degree you receive. This is because almost every company you apply to after university ask/expect you to have 12 months of experience and without the placement year how is this possible when you have been in education all of your life.
The Company
The department that I worked in Solution Support is one of the largest in SAP UKI. However, I always felt welcome coming to work and there was always a good level of banter and enthusiasm instilled in all the employees I worked with.
Ever since the assessment centre it was clear to see how much SAP valued their Intern programme. This did not change throughout the entire placement their was a good structure and process for the year.
It was made clear by my HR manager when we first met that they were willing to support me in any training or development for the future. This included me being put on a variety of different training courses and funding was provided for some further reading that was recommended.

Currently there is not a graduate programme as such at SAP. There is however the Sales Academy available for people who want a career in sales, which I don't. Although, interns in the past have managed to return to SAP in a variety of different roles.
The Culture
There was over 30 interns at SAP and we formed a strong social relationship which led to a variety of different events including Thorpe Park, Drinks, Meals, Christmas Events and more.
As the office is located just outside London the price of socialising is reasonably expensive. Living costs varies on how far away from the office you live although I would classify it as reasonably expensive.
In my actual area the nightlife was good. However, it is only a short (expensive) taxi or train (cheap) to London where the nightlife is Very Good.
I represented the SAP football team and got the opportunity to travel to Germany for the SAP World Cup. SAP covered the cost of flights and accommodation. There was also a variety of other events you can get involved with.
