The Role
It was ok, as I got a long with a few of the interns, but the work was boring, menial and anyone could have done it.
Not at all, whilst I was there they treated interns like they were disposable bodies, easy to replace, not valued at all.
None. There was no training, no support from the manager. However, when it was quiet I did get some guidance and advice from the main cutter and the print department.
Not really, having 7 people cut out 1 garment every 20mins was pretty dull. There were some busy period running up to deadlines were your asked to work 12 hour days and weekends for no compensation apart SALAD for lunch or dinner.
None, just cutting out all day going or errands to collect fabric samples and pick up things, replace the toilet paper, wash up the dishes and prepare dinner. Not anything important which I understand as its high fashion and a mistake can cost a lot of money. However, when you're not gaining any knowledge or valuable experience it does get frustrating to be the companies lacky!
I have learnt at what pace a high fashion studio runs, how to be resilient when under pressure. However, as for actually skills nothing was gained.
The Company
Very up and down. Interns are the low so for us it was hostile however, overall the company works well as a team and the print department was very nice and chilled!
It was organised in the sense of you show up and work everyday, either the day shift which was 9am-8pm or the night shift which was 5pm-2am and coming in on weekends every week. But there was no structure, as an internship you don't get to explore other departments your stuck in the main studio
Not at all
No way.
The Culture
I liked some of the other interns. However a lot didnt seem to be able to work as a team.
It cost a lot for me to travel in and none expenses were paid.
I was so shattered I didnt go out! But i do love east london overall!
nope
