The Role
Kicked off with a week of induction, and although strictly speaking not -necessary-, it was probably a good way to ease a lot of interns into the setting.
Very much so. Feedback was positive and I felt like I made a difference to them with the work I did.
I saw my people manager regularly,
Work was very up and down. Had to actively chase colleagues for assignments - once they saw my work ethic and attention to detail they kept giving me work. I would have loved more intellectually challenging pieces, though. (Never worked past 17:30 -- stayed after hours a couple of times and was chased home by my colleagues!)
Did real work on some top clients. Similar tasks to what an associate would do, although some are more mundane than others. Had two quite large projects that I very much enjoyed working on.
Invaluable insight into the professional world.
The Company
I wasn't included too much in the social aspect of it, but I probably could have involved myself more. It seemed like other offices had more of a social atmosphere - then again, I was the only intern in my department.
Some hiccups with IT in the beginning, but after this it was seamless. I will add that Tax is a lot less structured than Assurance.
Three days of technical training (off-site), followed by two days of IT and office training. Was explained my tasks thoroughly before embarking upon them. Also completed a two hour seminar on the Euro Crisis, where all levels of the firm participated.
Many different career paths, and all of them are a brilliant start to a career.
The Culture
Not so much in Tax, probably because I was the only intern in Tax. The Assurance interns were from the city I worked (I wasn't), and seemed busy with their own social lives.
Festival was on during my placement, so there were always shows (free and payable) to attend.
Fantastic!
Yes, but not so much for interns.
