The Role
I enjoyed it in that I learnt a lot and worked with very lovely people. The hours were good and the work was interesting. However, there was absolutely no social aspect to the job.
I felt quite valued as they appreciated the work I did and were very willing to give feedback at all times. I was also encouraged to attend team meetings regularly which made me feel like a part of the team.
I had a very supportive supervisor who taught me a great deal, but also gave me a lot of responsibility. He was very approachable and patient with me.
On average, I was kept quite busy. There was a day, though, when my supervisor was out of work and had allocated me some work to complete. When I was done, quite early in the day, I did not have much to do and had to go round asking to help others. But generally, I was mostly busy.
A lot of responsibility. I was given a project to complete all by myself. It was very interesting though, and I learnt a lot along the way. Being an A-Level student at the time, I was obviously no expert, so although I was given a lot of responsibility, the other members of the team were always ready to assist me.
I gained research skills, presentation skills, multitasking skills and analytical skills, to name a few, through the work I carried out. All of these I have found quite useful in my degree and in subsequent work placement schemes.
The Company
Everyone was cheerful and lovely, but everyone was also working all the time and didn't seem to have time for anything that wasn't work. Once work ended, we all went our different ways.
Pretty well organised with a helpful supervisor and a reasonable amount of tasks set out to complete.
I did attend one skills session on presentation skills, and gained a lot through the role itself, but otherwise the firm did not seem to interested in my professional development.
Subsidised Canteen
The work was enjoyable, but I don't think it is something I see myself doing in the future. I did not feel challenged enough, and did not like the lack of a social aspect to the job. On the plus side, the offices were really nice. But I wouldn't expect to work there again.
The Culture
There was absolutely no social scene. We spoke at work, about work, but that was mostly where it ended.
It was London, and thus very expensive. My transport fares were, however, paid for by the firm.
Excellent but expensive nightlife. Being in central London, there were restaurants and bars open till late, clubs, etc. However, these were pretty expensive.
There were many available opportunities, being in London, and the reasonable hours of the job meant that there was plenty of time to take advantage of these opportunities.
