About You
I enjoyed the work, the presentations and the socials all in equal measure.
I was repeatedly offered tea/coffee by superiors, asked how my weekend was and invited to departmental activities as if I were a member of the department
My trainee buddy was always on hand to answer questions and I also felt like I could ask anyone else for help if I needed it or my buddy wasn't available.
I think the skills developed will be of moist use when I come to actual legal work. however, the vacation scheme has given me an insight into commercial law which I would not have otherwise had and which will allow me to plan my future career with certainty.
The Company
the combination between time to participate in real work and the presentations to give insight into other practice areas struck a very good balance.
While some work was obviously not the most exciting in the world, the interesting context behind every piece of work I did was explained to me which made the more menial tasks seem much more interesting. Furthermore, the socials and presentations were always enjoyable.
I did a lot of work that would have otherwise been done by an actual trainee, so I think I was given a very accurate reflection of what the first few years of work would be like. furthermore, being able to talk to more superior members of the team meant that I could find out what the work was like for those higher up as well.
The vacation scheme allowed me my first actual insight into life at a large commercial firm and the combination of real work and presentations from different practice areas convinced me that it was a career I would like to pursue.
Everything Else
we had two social events at which we could network, as well as two drinks events, and there was the opportunity to ask questions after every practice area presentation.
early in the scheme we were given a presentation about the CSR policy and encouraged to participate. While I didn't manage to due to other time commitments, other vac schemers did.
