About You
The insight was useful as a stepping stone for the Summer Vacation Scheme. It involved various business games with multiple work streams from Deloitte.
The fact that a night in a hotel, dinner and transport were paid for made me feel valued. Unfortunately, I have since struggled to claim back my transport fee. The Spring into Deloitte programme is short so it is hard to feel highly valued.
The guidance towards applying for the Summer Vacation scheme was excellent, they offered various interview tips and a practice interview. The chance to get involved in a business game with each of the work streams (tax, consulting, audit and corporate finance) was informative.
Due to the short length of time for the programme (2 days), I feel it did not assist me in my degree. On the other hand, the experience of meeting new people was enjoyable. Presenting on a few topics with a small time to prepare was useful in the fact it helped me to prepare for the interview for the Summer Vacation Scheme.
The Company
The insight was very structured, with a timetable to follow over the two day period. This meant everyone got a chance to get involved with an area of the business they were interested in. We conducted various presentations which were timed in.
Everyone came from different backgrounds and was very friendly. It was a unique experience being mixed with a group of people that wanted to venture into different service lines (consulting, audit etc.)
We took part in several business games and were in charge of creating and presenting our findings back to the group, this was a great training experience. We also took part in a mock interview by Deloitte colleagues. It was insightful to get feedback on this. It felt like Deloitte put a lot of training on for their employees.
It was hard to judge from 2 days what Deloitte would be like working for full time. However, learning about the different areas definitely opened my eyes as to what a role with Deloitte could entail.
The event itself was well structured and all staff were willing to help and were friendly. This showed me how the company values it's employees which is important in a career choice.
As I had already taken part in a 12 month placement, this 2 day event did not help me to decide a career path. It did however open my eyes to Deloitte's company culture and more importantly, how much time and effort they invest in their employees.
Everything Else
Expenses were supposed to be reimbursed however I am still (3 months later) trying to obtain my expenses. This unfortunately has set a negative precedence for how I view Deloitte.
Employees from all areas of Deloitte joined for both the day activities to coordinate, and in the evening for dinner at the hotel. It was good seeing a variety of seniority levels attend.
As stated above, the dinner was a good networking event. The event was however short due to the restricted 2 day period.
I cannot recall being told much about extracurricular activities outside of Deloitte.
This insight was very useful for anyone considering applying for the Summer Vacation Scheme, it helped as a stepping stone to secure me a place. It also gives you an advantage by interviewing before applications open publicly.
