The Role
Overall, I found the internship very enjoyable. I learned a lot about the practical skills needed to succeed in a corporate environment.
My colleagues were extremely helpful and friendly. They always answered my questions and cleared my doubts. They will also ask for feedback frequently to get my opinion regarding the work I was doing and the company.
I met all the managers and supervisors during my first week. They would also frequently visit the desks of all the interns to see how everything was going. We would also have breakfast every Friday morning with some of the mangers and all of our mentors to discuss how the week has been and address any issues. The support and guidance received by the management was commendable.
The projects and meetings were keeping me occupied most of the time. I was relatively busy but not too busy - so there was also time for a little chit chat with colleagues in the office.
After 2 weeks of training, I was part of a team of a huge software called Radar. I was given bugs to fix and little features to add. I deployed my commits to trunk just 3 weeks into my internship. Later, I worked on a research project for Radar that could significantly improve user experience in terms of managing versions of their data.
I learnt a lot about programming and what it is like in a corporate environment. I learnt about various design patterns and how important they are when developing object oriented software applications. I learnt how to keep my solution well structured, organised and most importantly readable. These skills and lessons will help me significantly in my future endeavours.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very welcoming and friendly. There was a good balance between friendliness and work. People will ask people for their opinions regarding their work but also share a few stories or laughs.
I was very impressed with the organisation of the internship. The activities all the interns did on induction day were very effective to get all of us to talk and know each other. Everyone's calendars were kept up to date with all the events, meetings, appointments, etc.
We had to spend the first two weeks of the internship developing a solution for a project with code up to the Towers Watson standard. During these two weeks, all the interns, including me, learnt a lot about programming in a corporate environment, how to structure and organise code, and how to keep it readable.

I had a very positive experience throughout my internship. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. I found that the work environment there suits me and there are many opportunities of growth in the company. It has a growing tech department and they are moving forward with new technologies.
The Culture
We usually had lunch together. On Fridays, we also usually went to the local pub for drinks. There were also events organised for us to know more people in the office.
The cost of living and socialising is a little less compared to what is in London. However food is subsidised in the canteen of the office, so the food in the office is very cheap.
I honestly don't think there is any nightlife in Reigate.
There were always various kinds of events organised with everyone in the office. Some were mainly socialising events, some were sports events - table tennis, badminton, footgolf, etc.
