The Role
Great experience, great people. So much fun joining with a large group of interns, plus Deloitte is already quite a young company so very social.
Could only do small jobs, but still felt useful. Got to know the team well inside and outside of work.
I was in audit so the team differed in my last 2 weeks compared to my first week. The first week was in a company going through a hectic time so my team were very busy, but in the second week I had a much better learning experience as they were in a position to help me a lot more.
Mostly always had stuff to work on, or in the times where I was waiting for work I had the opportunity to work on my presentation for the final interview that takes place in the last week.
You will be working on real client work out on client sites and also have the chance to attend client meetings.
I do accounting and finance at university so the skills I have developed are very relevant.
The Company
The audit teams I worked with out on client sites were both very young (in general audit at Deloitte is quite a young service line), so the atmosphere was brilliant as everyone was very similarly minded. We had a great laugh.
Well organised - you have a HR point of contact to arrange everything and be there for any questions, there is also a Deloitte summer vacation scheme Facebook page, you are also given a Deloitte buddy who acts as your informal point of contact for any questions.
I was in the Birmingham office and the internship started with all the regional office interns being put up in a hotel for the weekend, all expenses covered, for an introductory session and a chance to get to know other interns from all over. Then we had a day in the office for an IT induction before being booked out on client sites from the next day.
Company Parties/Events
I've been offered a job for when I graduate which I will be taking! Most people will be offered a job off the back of the summer vacation scheme providing you get good feedback from the people you've worked with and perform well in the partner interview, where you give a presentation on a pre-appointed topic and answer questions to see if your values align with Deloitte's.
The Culture
There were socials arranged and paid for by Deloitte, but the interns also made further plans amongst themselves. It would probably depend on what office you were in, but in Birmingham there was a good sized group to do stuff with!
Deloitte's office in Birmingham is in Brindley Place which is also right off Broadstreet, so there is lots of choice. Cost varied depending on bar/club, but was often covered by the company/colleagues.
Deloitte's Birmingham office was in Brindley Place which is also just off Broadstreet, so great nightlife from clubs to bars to restaurants - All Bar One was a favourite for after work drinks!
There's plenty you could get involved in, you just need to ask!
