The Role
I'm currently writing this whilst I'm near the end of my internship, and I can honestly say I have enjoyed my internship experience. I am interning at the Deals tax team at the London office. The work itself is interesting as you get to work on various projects and the colleagues are super friendly and attentive. This allowed me to settle in quick and feel comfortable in my surrounding.
I felt like I was just another colleague rather than an intern. Every intern gets a 'buddy' which is someone who has worked at the firm for less than a year, the buddy is there to answer any questions which you have. PwC put a great emphasis on asking questions to help develop yourself and in PwC there is no stupid questions, this was great for me as I had many questions to ask. Personally, my buddy was great as he had a funny personality and he was very helpful and never got annoyed with me asking questions. Also any time I wanted help on a piece of work he would stop what he was doing and he'll sit me down and go through it with me.
Every intern has a 'People Manager' which tends to be the manager of your team, and his role is to support me if there are any problems and is also responsible to help you identify what you want from the experience and also assist you in developing yourself as a professional using the feedback you receive from the work you do. My People Manager was a very down to earth guy, he was very attentive. I even got to play football with both my People Manager and Buddy, this was a great way to build a relatoinship with them, so I do recommend to find a way to build a relationship with your team, this could be done through sport activities or even a drink down the pub.
My first week was relatively quiet, I'm guessing this is because PwC wants you to first get to know the team and feel comfortable in your surrounding. After the first week I started getting tax computations to do and other tasks such as researching about a company and then having to present your report to your colleagues. I was kept busy however it never got to the point were it was stressful, and If I did feel there was alot of work then I could simply ask for help or more time to complete the work.
Surprisingly alot. I was working on real projects with real clients, it's scary thinking if you mess up then it will have a real effect on the client, but there are always colleagues to help review the work and ensure it is up to PwC standards.
This internship experience has definitely helped me in managing my time better.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very relaxed. Any time you wanted a 5 min break you could simply just talk to your colleagues sitting around you and grab a coffee together.
very well organised. first week is an induction week, learning more about PwC and what is expected from the internship experience. Then the next 5 weeks you are based in your office, for me this was the More London office. In terms of work being set there is none, you will have to ask around for work, but this was good as it allowed me to have a reaosn to approach a colleague and get to know them.Overall. this internship was very organised.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Very good as they have a high rate of offering interns a graduate job offer, I think they told us it was 93%. Next week I wil find out if i get an offer so fingers crossed!
The Culture
yes there were many events and patries to help get to know more colleagues not just from your own team but from other teams, also events held for interns only to help get ti know other interns.
London is an expensive area to live in but then again the internship pays okay to manage for 6 weeks.
Didnt really experience the nightlife but I heard its good
Yeah I really took part in the football team (i'm a massive arsenal fan) and also there were other acitivites such as bowling etc..
