The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed getting involved in a wide variety of tasks which enabled great exposure to many suppliers and key stakeholders across the business.
Everyone I met within the business and especially within my department I feel I was valued and treated as equally as everyone else
Whenever I asked questions or had any problems with tasks, I felt I could ask anyone and anyone I did ask was willing to help me. Even senior stakeholders within the business were happy to offer guidance and constructive advice.
I think that overall there was a perfect balance and I was always encouraged to ask for work if I did not have many tasks at a certain time.
I think that considering the sensitivity of some Procurement activities I was given the maximum amount of responsibility I thought was appropriate, which allowed me to get involved in some very interesting tender processes and regularly being in contact with suppliers, as well as sourcing activities,
I think that what I have learned throughout the year will offer so much value to my final year studies and will enable me to apply my practical experience to the theory I will learn in the coming year. Working in NATS Supply Chain Team has enabled me to realise what profession I now want to pursue and I am already starting to plan my dissertation questions around Supply Chain Management at NATS.
The Company
Great!! Everyone is friendly and easy to get on with and everyone really enjoys what they do and is willing to share their knowledge and experience.
I think that being allowed to join each team within the department during my placement has meant I have a full understanding of the supply chain function and how each team within supply chain contribute towards enabling the business to achieve its goals, so for me it has been perfect to get so much exposure.
I received a lot of formal and informal training during my placement and went on numerous training courses along with the other department members and the business even paid for me to attend training courses by myself.

In the past they have taken on some of their placement students when they graduate so there is hopefully some scope for this to happen in my case.
The Culture
Yes. there is the football team who are very social which some student were a part of this year. I regularly met up with the other placement student in other areas of the business inside and outside of work, with a few nights out thrown in.
Didn't live in the immediate local area, so unsure on the costs, but they are probably pretty similar to usual student housing costs.
Where NATS is located there is not much in the way of Nightlife in Whiteley, but Portsmouth and Southampton are only a short train journey away. I lived in Portsmouth during my placement which is great for nightlife and is only a short commute to work away.
There is a sports and social club and there were always different things and events to get involved in throughout the year
