The Role
I have really enjoyed the internship, giving me a great opportunity to be exposed to a real consultancy project.
Very much so. From day 1 I was valued as a colleague, not just a school child on a shadowing scheme. I was given the chance to work directly with clients, contributing to the project and not given only manual tedious tasks.
Before my arrival I was allocated a buddy (associate) and a people manager (manager) as well as a line manager within the project I was working on. All 3 people were there for me to ask for help from and provide guidance, meeting up on a regular basis.
I was busy but nothing more than expected. The hours are long and hard but the project team highly valued my input. As a reward, I was invited to a number of social events to celebrate milestones in the project being reached.
Whilst obviously on the first few days the responsbility I was given was limited, very quickly was I given a great deal of responsibility. I was trusted soon after joining that the work I was producing was to a high standard and therefore was free to work independently at times.
Every intern was at a 3 day induction event in Northamptonshire however the training received on this was limited. The nature of consultancy makes it very hard to receive appropiate technical training however some of the soft skills developed in the event were useful.
The Company
I was the client site 5 days a week so very rarely was I at my home office in London. The client office had a hard working atmosphere as expected but also there was time to have fun.
Very very well organised. The whole process from application through to the final graduate offer was planned out and well communicated to me.
3 days were spent at a training event before the internship started. Later on plenty of feedback was given by many people, giving up their time to help me develop. Feedback is very highly valued within PwC.
A clear pathway has been communicated as to future opportunities within PwC. There is a strong push to transfer interns into the graduate scheme provided they are good enough and this is appealing. There is a very high percentage of interns who are offered a graduate job.
The Culture
There was a very good social scene amongst fellow consultancy interns although it is important to note that this was all arranged by the interns, not by the firm.
Lived at home so only had to pay tube fares. Expensive to socialise in London Bridge but that is to be expected.
Expensive!
I was involved in a community outreach project helping young people in the area around the office. I was also offered the chance to take part in a client football tournament.
