The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed the year as a whole - gained valuable experience of the work environment and business conduct as well as a vast amount of knowledge of the industry I was working in.
Couldn't have asked for a better team. The Consumer Division as a whole was a really friendly, open and outgoing division where everyone interacted positively all the time. Great bunch.
For the first 3 months of my placement we had weekly one-to-ones which helped massively in terms of starting with the company and getting used to the environment. After that it was more casual and there wasn't a need for supervision as such which I preferred.
Very - from September up until my last week it has been non-stop, but due to flexible working hours and a strong team there was no real issues. January was the busiest period with many customer conferences and events which most involved getting up at 4/5am to get there in time to set up but there were also opportunities to go the night before and book into a hotel all paid for by work which was decent!
A huge amount! My projects involved billboard activity, store displays and units, catalogue production and customer events and conferences.
As part of the IP/Graduate Scheme there were some external workshops and days outside of work that were varied from useful to useless, but the training and skills from my direct team were valuable and certainly puts me in better stead to work for different companies after university.
The Company
Open, friendly, outgoing, sociable. We played giant Jenga every Friday with chocolate/cakes weekly. Everyone was approachable and there were no usual corporate desk sittings as such.
Beforehand everything went really smoothly, there was a handover period between myself and the previous placement student which was all prepared beforehand as well and really useful.
3M gave me the opportunity to look into different divisions apart from the Consumer Division where I worked. I went out on a few sales days with different divisions which gave a flavour into work outside of my division. Apart from that that there weren't many individual courses as such.

As a company to work for - very appealing. My only issue is my personal preference of wanting to explore a bit more and work in London or abroad. Bracknell isn't the liveliest of places! But the building/company is very appealing for employment.
The Culture
Absolutely - out of the 10 of us placement students, 7 of us formed a really outgoing and social group. We went to London on about 10 different occasions, Manchester, Newcastle, Dublin and Ibiza for 5 days! Never expected to make such good friends outside of my work division but was really pleasantly surprised.
Lived in Reading which was cheap student accommodation and standard prices for socialising.
Nothing compares to Newcastle, but Reading did the job for the odd weekend where we had nothing planned. Otherwise London as usual provided a lot of entertainment.
When I started there was a Monday Night Football Club which I got stuck into. In October I ended up running it and taking over as manager - met up with a huge range of people inside of 3M who I wouldn't have met otherwise. We had various socials, awards and of course football games.
