The Role
I very much enjoyed my placement year. Grant Thornton UK LLP made me feel right at home right away. I was trusted and given work that a graduate would be given which enabled me to obtain a true Picture of what I would be doing if I joined after university. I was given full support and in-charge members of my team always made sure that I was given different work every time. Everyone was very friendly and we had frequent Team Days with Social events after. I was aslo given the opportunity to discover other sectors within the company besides the sector I applied for which gave me a further insight into Services provided by the firm. I would highly recommend Grant Thornton as they are supportive, friendly and an International company with many opportunities.
I was very much valued by my collegues. My opinions mattered and Associates expressing their opinion on Team Days were taken seriously which made me feel that I could also contribute to the overall firm strategy. I was always included in all the Social events organised by the company and the fact that I was a placement student never came in the way of the amount of responsibility and trust given to me.
My Line manager was very supportive. We arranged monthly meetings where we would discuss what was going on and any issues that I may have. He supported me when I came up with new ideas or ways to develop and improve quality of work and gave me advise where I needed it.
Very busy. Throughout my whole placement there were only two months of very little work. When indeed I did not have any work, there were ways of communicating this to many different sectors within the firm that may have needed help. This allowed me to complete a variety of tasks besides Audit.
A lot. I was given as much responsibility as an associate would have been given in their First year! My in-charges also made sure that they gave me a variety of sections to work on even if it meant that I may make more mistakes being the First time I performed those tasks. I also helped in conducting the team days whereby I worked alongside senior members of the firm and discussed important strategy matters.
Very much so. I now know what the job entails as well as how to do it which may give me an advantage in terms of career development. I also know what direction I want my career to take. Latsly, having briefly looked at next year's lectures, I realise that I am now able to more easily relate the practise to the theory and include real world examples.
The Company
The Office atmosphere was a lot more relaxed than I expected it to be. It was an open plan Office which allowed all levels to sit besides eachother promoting a friendly atmosphere. People always asked how I was and in General everyone was always very friendly. I wouldnt say that the 'fun never stopped' as the work itself was quite demanding but there were events and team days that recompensated for that. People were Free to have small conversations and laugh as long as others were not disturbed and the work was done.
Very organised. It was the First time that the sector I had applied for took on placement students so sometimes Line managers were not realy aware of the proceedures. However they always made sure they found out on time. There were also trainings and events specific to placement students which I found very organised and helpful.
Very much so. I learnt all the programs used by people in my sector and was able to attend trainings to further my understanding. As I said before I was treated just like a First year associate so besides the exams, the firm invested just as much in me as in an associate. I even attended week long Associate Level 1 trainings.

Very appealing. I have received an offer with Grant Thornton and have been told that they would fully support my development in terms of my Professional qualification and career . They would also support a choice to go on secondments within the organisation to experience other service Lines.
The Culture
Yes. Although it was difficult to travel given the London distances, we organised many outings and often stayed until late at company Social events.
Very High. Being the Centre of London, rent and travel are very expensive.
It's London! There is everything!
Many. It was mainly sports clubs but they were pretty open and supportive when and if someone had a new idea. There were also the opportunity to join collegues from different sectors on group outings to various events.
